What are You Measuring?

Just because you can measure it doesn’t mean it mattered.

We like data and analytics. We have a craving for more information that we believe is telling us more about our sales or our customers.

Be careful.

There is a trap in making data the new prize.

There are many things you can measure, but that does not mean they matter.

Data is great, but knowing what it says about the minds of your employees and your customers is where you find the real value.

Metrics are great.

Dashboards can be useful.

True meaning comes from your ability to translate data into something of value. Focus on changing the lives of the people that interact with you and your organization. This is the real area of impact and ultimately the only metric that counts. Ironically, it can be one of the hardest things to measure.
